manningham“Every part of our new network is delivering exactly as Generation-e promised.” Goran Babusku, Network Manager, Manningham City

Challenge

Manningham City Council was created as a result of the amalgamation of the Cities of Doncaster and Templestowe. Councillors and all employees are guided by Council's Code of Best Practice, which aims to ensure that Manningham City Council carries out its responsibilities in the best interests of the community and ensure that services and facilities are provided equitably to the community in an efficient and effective manner.

IT Environment

As part of ensuring best practice, Manningham City Council reviewed communications between its many sites. During this review, Council established that while the existing infrastructure was serving well, newer technologies would dramatically lower costs while providing increased bandwidth for enhanced services allowing better customer service.

Solution

Generation-e was engaged to provide a secure, broadband network to many of Council’s sites. The new “private” network was four times faster than the existing infrastructure but at a greatly reduced monthly cost. Generation-e assisted Council to setup the new network and migrate sites across without user interruption.

With the new private network in place, Generation-e was engaged to solve another problem – poor Internet performance. A new Internet connection was established with dual connections for redundancy and increased performance. To minimise costs, existing equipment from the old Internet link was redeployed to enhance resiliency and connectivity to the Disaster Recovery site. Generation-e provided a range of routing equipment from Cisco Systems for the project.

Business Impact

Members of staff at the council were able to increase their productivity.
