In the first major update to Microsoft’s free email platform in over 8 years, Hotmail is moving to Outlook.com.
Given that Microsoft has and continues to invest a lot the Office 365 and Azure cloud platforms, this move makes a lot of sense. Outlook.com seems to use the same back end Office 365 platform that serves Small Business, Enterprise, and Education. This is a consolidation of cloud platforms that allows everyone to share a piece of the latest Office 365 technology for free.
You can start using the new (“Preview”) service by signing in at http://outlook.com with your existing Hotmail/Live ID, or you can create a new account.
You can create email alias’s on one account so you can keep your old email address and transition to a new one.
